The Arts on Main Street is funded in part through a $50,000 grant
from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The grant is part of MCC’s
John and Abigail Adams Arts Program for Cultural
Economic Development, which helps communities that “seek
to enhance economic growth strategies through arts and culture.”
Sponsored by the
City of Fall River, UMass Dartmouth and the Fall River office
of Economic development (FROED) in
Collaboration with the Massachusetts
Cultural council (MCC).
The Arts on Main
street project is designed to
“boost the creative economy in Fall River.”
According to Dr. Jean f. MacCormack, Chancellor
at UMD, “The
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth welcomes the opportunity
to partner with the city of Fall River in the Massachusetts Cultural
Council’s public art project. This Collaboration represents
a new and exciting creative initiative that encourages local
artists and students to enhance the creative economy and life
of the community.”
Kenneth Fiola, Jr., Esq., FROED’s
Executive vice President,
said, “ The Arts on Main Street initiative will enhance
the activities at the Cherry&Webb Gallery.”
“New
arts and cultural activity in the downtown is certainly another
positive step forward for the district and for the city,” Fiola
noted. |
